Pysanky Greeting Card
The colourful painted Easter eggs of Eastern European tradition, pysanky in Ukrainian and pisanki in Polish were originally made using beeswax and natural dyes to decorate hollowed eggs around Easter time. Stemming from the Ukranian word pysaty — to write or inscribe as they used a special tool called a kistka to hold hot beeswax to draw designs upon the eggs.
To give a pysanka is to give a symbolic gift of life. Strongly associated with nature and rebirth, the egg has been a time-honoured symbol dating back to pagan times and since incorporated into Christian tradition.
